The Employed Entrepreneur

OK, so this site is dedicated to the Employed Entreprenuer.

What is an Employed Entrepreneur? The idea of the Employed Entrepreneur is one who maintains fairly steady full or part-time employment while engaging in entrepreneurial activities. The reason for employment is usually finacial stability. Either the entrepreneurial activity doesn’t make enough money to quit employment or the entrepreneur isn’t ready, willing or able to take the risk of leaving the job behind.

Whatever the reason for maintaining employment, the reality is that there are MANY employed entrepreneurs and even wanna-be entrepreneurs. I am not being derogatory, but the fact is some people want their own business, but lack the ideas or knowledge to get started. Most of us Employed Entrepreneurs have made at least one attempt (probably many) to generate income, hoping some day to do away with the real job and be our own boss.

This site exists to review ideas and to record my attempts at (successful or otherwise) generating income, both online and offline. The thought, of course, is that others may benefit from (or contribute to) these part-time or start-up projects that one can do while maintaining employment. Should you find some that interest you, they could lead anywhere or nowhere for you. Many of the ideas or methods covered may not be for everyone, but perhaps they will inspire you to discover the right one for you.

As an Employed Entrepreneur, I have run several businesses while mostly maintaining employment. I have started web, video, advertising, consulting, sports and media businesses - some might surprise you. Many of my ventures have been profitable in some fashion, but none have turned out to be long-term job-replacing incomes. In some instances I considered or even attempted to get angel funding but failed.

My experience is that not all ideas turn out to be sustainable long-term. Some may even turn out to be much more work or much less interesting than originally thought. Others could provide long-term successes, but required much more resources or time to pursue than I had at the time. Along the way I have learned what I prefer to do and have gradually changed my focus accordingly.

I think you may agree that sometimes making money doing something you have lost interest in, is much like a job, and with potentially less security. Welcome to the world of the Employed Entrepreneur. Serial attempts do not make us serial entrepreneurs. Credit for being a serial entrepreneur usually only occurs when you have had multiple million-dollar ventures.

Again, this site is geared toward investigating real ideas that can generate income for the Employed Entrepreneur. Feel free to follow along….
