Making money with domain parking

I own many domains. Some I have had for years, some I have recently purchased. Most I purchased while working on a project. Often, after spending some initial time and money to research a product, I decide that I am either no longer interested, or convinced that my time and effort are not going to pay off in a way I might hope.

That leaves me with a lot of domains to manage or host somewhere. So how can I monetize dormant domains? Currently I have many of my domains parked. There are quite a few domain parking sites/systems out there and I have toyed with creating my own. The parking site I am currently testing is Sedo.com.

Alternatively I could go with GoDaddy, WhyPark.com, Tucows, or several others or scripts. I chose Sedo because they were free and I needed a starting point to test from, even though I believe they revenue share.  They offer pretty plain pages in general with a few color options that offer related links and keywords and a search box.  On a couple of my domains, I have ads that make *me* curious enough to want to click, so perhaps it works for others too. (no I never click on my own ads, but they do make me want to.) To see what sedoparking pages look like, find domains from my list and see which show up when you type them into the browser. Unfortunately Sedo forbids linking or marketing parked domains. Like I said Sedo was free.

WhyPark has an interesting system with lots of links and options and I beleive they do not revenue share except on their internal ad network. But you can put lots of stuff on your pages. The cost is $100 for 100 domains and I wasn’t convinced that I would get a return on my investment. I was very close to buying though.

As for GoDaddy, I personally just dont care for their managemnt system, though it is not hard, it is a bit slow and cumbersome. And I just haven’t taken time to checkout Tucows.

Well, so far… I have earned a whopping $2 and change on Sedo, so I am glad I didn’t pay for parking. Perhaps I could do better on another system though, especially with a bit of promotion.

In the very near future I will be trying my own system with some domains and I will be able to market those and hopefully will make much more money. Until then, I am up for suggestions for an easy to manage and more profitable parking system.
